Potts Point is my favourite inner-city destination by far, its cosmopolitan, full of life and on a Monday evening seriously going off!! As I walked down Macleay Street almost every restaurant is open and almost every restaurant is completely full.
Marina and I usually head to our favourite food mecca called Fratelli Paradiso http://fratelliparadiso.com/ on Challis Street, however we thought to try somewhere different and very glad we did.
Yellow is located at 57 Macleay Street, just slightly down from the corner of Challis Street, next to the hidden Fratelli Fresh shop.
Yellow is part of the same amazing restaurant group who also own The Bentley Restaurant http://www.thebentley.com.au/ and Monopole http://monopolesydney.com.au/ and it certainly shows.
I always read reviews before attending new restaurants to ultimately see if I agree or disagree with critics verdicts... in this case Terry Durack of the Sydney Morning Herald summed it up perfectly... http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/eat-out/review/restaurant/yellow-20131028-2way1.html it's a French bistro but not as you know it!
From the moment you walk in the door, the atmosphere is calm, cosy and very friendly. Waiting for Marina to arrive I dropped my butter knife (clumsy me) and within an instant a lovely waiter has scooped it up and taken away, returning with a sparkly new butter knife for me to dip into the home made butter and spread it onto my mouth watering home made sourdough... warm and crusty - perfect!
We decided to share the entrée of cured Snapper with avocado and roe, the portion was small and definitely not intended to be shared but never the less we enjoyed the beautifully presented and fresh snapper delight on offer.
Marina then ordered the slow cooked Lamb shoulder with eggplant and kale, she said the it was sublimely cooked and the presentation again was impeccable and the portion as a main was generous.
I ordered the Mulloway with celtuce and shemji mushrooms which was just amazing, again so beautifully presented and the fish was delicious.
We ordered the baby Kipfler potatoes with sour Cream & shallot Powder which I think I could have eaten as a main on it's own :)
The dessert we shared again as it was of generous portion - we still can't work out how they got the passionfruit curd within the chocolate sphere but I guess that is one for my pastry chef cousin to explain.
All in all I totally agreed with Terry Durack 's review. It was affordable, friendly, they take bookings (shock horror for Sydney), beautifully presented and the food was five stars.
Get down there...
